How to use and troubleshoot the eUpdate System for Print Manager Plus

Sometimes the eUpdate system has problems due to firewall, licensing and other issues. These steps help handle this.

Using the eUpdate System for Print Manager Plus


Print Manager Plus 6.0 and later include a built in update function to obtain the latest version. The updates can be obtained by opening the Print Manager Plus Administrator and going to 'File > eUpdate - Electronic Update'.


Obtaining Updates:
The eUpdate tool is composed of two sections, and Administrator Update and Service Update. Both should be done at the same time.



Major Upgrades:
The eUpdate system can not be used to perform major upgrades. For example upgrading from 6.0 to 7.0, or 2008 to 2010. If you wish to perform a major upgrade you will need to obtain the upgrade version. Please email WorldWideSupport@softwareshelf.com with your license key or purchase information.





  1. Administrator Update: This function updates the Print Manager Plus console you are using. More specifically it updates 'pmpadmin.exe' and all associated files and reports to the latest.

    This can be run by clicking the 'Update Administrator' Button.

  2. Server Update: Below the Administrator Update, a white box will display all Servers running the Print Manager Plus Service with the current version.

    You will need to select each server you need to update and then click on the 'Update Selected Server(s)' button.
    Warning: This may cause the target server to reboot depending on the specific changes in this update, and the current service version of that server.

    Important: You must be logged in as an Administrator of the servers you are trying to update.


Troubleshooting the eUpdate system



  1. License Key: Print Manager Plus uses your license key to check on your maintenance status. A current Maintenance Contract is required to run eUpdate. This key must be entered on the Print Servers tab, by selecting your Server and clicking 'Edit License'. Ensure your key is entered all Capitals with the Dashes:
    In Example: NGPV2-FGGHV-E62DY-XEVYE

  2. Service Errors: In some cases, you may get the error message: The service is not running or of an older version.

    This error sometimes occurs even when the service is running version 6.0. To fix this, Stop and Restart the Print Manager Plus service. Once done reopen the Print Manager Plus application and run eUpdate again.


  3. Current Version: The eUpdate system for Print Manager Plus works in version 6.0 and later. If you are running version 5.5 or earlier, you will need to aquire a manual update to version 6.0 first.

  4. Firewall Issues: Sometimes corporate firewalls prevent the eUpdate from downloading or checking for updates. If you notice the following message in your update status column then a firewall is the reason you are unable to update
    Error: "< !DOCTYP HTML PUBLIC"-//W3C..."
    To allow the eUpdates the server and software needs to be allowed to contact "www.softwareshelf.com" on Port 80.
